Hi <3
We’re Layla and Sophia. For the last three years, we’ve run literary coverage at NYLON while developing a psychically powerful boss/employee relationship and a wholesome friendship. With Layla as culture editor and Sophia as culture writer, our proudest moments have always been spotlighting indie literature together. Now, we’re excited to be starting our own platform.
Language Arts is a dedicated space for books coverage that’s free from the rules and regulations of the media machine.
You’ve read our interviews with writers like Anna Dorn, Chelsea Hodson, Alexandra Tanner, Madeline Cash, Marlowe Granados, and Ottessa Moshfegh. You might feel some type of way about our coining the “controversial” term “literary It Girl.” You might have seen us LOLing together in the corner of book launch parties.
With Language Arts, you can expect author interviews, guest posts from our favorite writers, themed monthly book recommendation lists, odes to slept-on classics, and boots-on-the-ground scene reports from literary parties. We’re going to have fun and tell you about books you actually want to read — because after all, we’ve been doing it already :)
Thanks for being here with us <3
XO Layla & Sophia

So proud of you both! <3<3
